This is the only round trip trail, but it compensates by its good cycling character and landscape. The trail takes you atop Iezer-Papusa, starting from Rucar. Ride along Valea lui Ecle Valley and leave it after almost 2 km to start the ascent to Culmea Capitanului ridge. Get out of the forest and see the silhouette of Piatra Craiului ridge and Papusa Peak, the target for today. Climb further, ride past two sheepfolds and get closer to Tefeleica Saddle. After having cycled for 25 km from departure, reach Gradisteanu Saddle at an elevation of 1,944 m, where you can have a break for food and hydration, as the next part is a push-bike up to Papusa Peak, 2,391 m (if you want you can leave the bike in the saddle). From the top, the panoramic view of the Fagaras or the Piatra Craiului Mountains confirms that it was worth every effort. To return to Rucar you can descend on Mount Boteanu, which is not recommended as the grass tufts, the missing path and the road washout make it a difficult descent. Therefore, we recommend going back the same way, carefully first between Papusa Peak and Gradisteanu Saddle, and then enjoying the speed down to Rucar.
